Scar Revision Options and Limits
Scar revision may improve color, texture, contour, position, symptoms, or movement, but it cannot erase a scar.

The ICRS material distinguishes surface discoloration or irregularity, raised hypertrophic scars, keloids that may extend beyond the original wound, and contracture scars that can restrict movement after tissue loss or burns.
Treatment depends on scar type, location, size, age, symptoms, skin tension, pigment, prior response, and the way the original injury or incision healed. Options may include topical care, injections, resurfacing, non-surgical treatment, surgical revision, or a staged combination.
No treatment can remove every trace of a scar. Consultation should clarify the most important goal, the risk of recurrence or pigment change, where a new incision would be placed, and whether observation is preferable.
For personalized guidance, the next step is a consultation with the practice. The team can review your goals, timing, relevant history, and realistic options directly with you.
