Three points to consider.
The ICRS ear-surgery material identifies prominent or overly large ears, structural differences present from birth, injury, asymmetry, and dissatisfaction after prior surgery as concerns that may be evaluated.
Planning considers the specific cartilage feature, the position of the ear relative to the head, asymmetry, scar placement, health history, medications, nicotine or alcohol use, and the patient’s own reason for considering surgery.
Incisions are commonly placed behind the ear or within natural creases, but the exact technique and the possibility of visible scars, asymmetry, recurrence, or revision should be discussed directly.
